Nature Republic Soothing & Moisture Aloe Vera 90% Toner | FAIL SOOTHING TONER

Annyeong, Everyone~
if you are an avid member of the #abcommunity and #rasianbeauty on Instagram, you probably know or may not know that @snuggle_bunnies is hosting #sadskincarechallenge for the whole month of February.
The challenge is to showcase beauty products that are a fail to you and with a different theme every day.
Today is D-4 of the challenge and the theme is Toner.
Coincidentally I have a bad toner in my stash. I only used it once and it is already terrible and sad.
Without further ado, let's get on into WHY the toner that I am going to talk about is a fail for me, in honor of the challenge!
If you have sad experiences with beauty products, do share on your Instagram with the tag #sadskincarechallenge
I just wanted to inform you guys about this challenge and because the host herself is a sweet person :> it is a fun and helpful challenge! I can know which products to avoid!

The sad toner that I am going to talk about is the Nature Republic Soothing & Moisture Aloe Vera 90% Toner. I think I ordered this last 2 years for my mom.

My mom used it first before and then stopped, I will tell you the reason why below. I then used it when my skin really needed some soothing action by that time but this toner only made it worser, again I will tell you why below if you keep on reading.

The amount was still alot after my mom stopped using it. It seemed like she only used it a very few times. I too only used it once and stopped.

and if you see '제조', it is the MFG/MANUFACTURED DATE.

This toner has a pH of 5~

Texture

Clear, watery, runny and its scent? gosh this has a strong smell of alcohol + parfum!!!!!! urgh

Anyway it absorbs fast into the skin and gives a matte finish.

Me (and my mom's) Thoughts and Experience, Why The Toner is Terrible & Bad

My mom has a sensitive skin so aloe vera products are her usual go-to ingredient for the products that she is using. You know how aloe is calming, soothing and good for skin relief~

Her experiences with an aloe product is the opposite when it comes to this toner. She told me that it is too strong for her.

and as for my experience, one time I picked this toner in hoped for it to calm my irritated skin...

instead, it STINGS the irritated area that I wanted to CALM

The area was already irritated and red and by applying this toner it made it worser by stinging it.

And when I first smelled it, I thought it wouldn't went good due to its strong alcohol smell
and my thoughts were not wrong *and yet dumb dumb me still decided to use it

Thankfully it was just stinging and nothing too major like break outs, peeling or anything.

I still do not know what triggered the reaction. It is funny that aloe vera leaf juice is the number one ingredient, maybe its % amount is low so that is why it is not soothing?

Another possible irritant is Alcohol Denat. Maybe the content of the denatured alcohol is alot more than the aloe vera juice? Maybe. It is hard to tell because there are no indepth statistics of each of the ingredients. I am just saying about the possibilities.

Another thing is, could it be saltwater? Maybe the Sodium (salt) content is too much? I was exposed to saltwater at the beaches before and never had bad experiences. I haven't bathe in saltwater in such a long time now. I don't know, molla.

And the last irritant that I can think of is Ethyl Hexanediol, a form of fragrance. It is listed quite high in the list (4th ingredient). Maybe (again with the maybe) this is why the toner has a strong alcohol + perfumey scent.

My Final Thoughts

So yeah now you know why the toner is sad for me. Definitely not 'soothing' at all. Moisturizing? Don't even get me to that, I only applied it once and will never use it again.

This toner stings my face and felt harsh on my mom's. I know some people do not have any negative experiences with this toner. If you have a sensitive skin, you might want to avoid this toner. There are many other better soothing toners out there.

Anyway, I found out that Nature Republic have reformulated this toner. I hope the newer version is better. You can take a look at it HERE.

I still want to know which of its ingredients that trigger the reaction so I can avoid it in the future.

I've been using the toner to clean things since then, I still don't like to waste eventhough the toner is terrible haha.

Will I Repurchase?

Straight to the point, NO.

Where to Buy?

USD 9.75/160ml at Amazon
USD 5.95/160ml (no free shipping) at Roseroseshop

Many other websites are selling the latter version right now.

Thank you for reading~ What do you guys think of this toner?
